Pillboxie looks great.
Cureva actually keeps them safe.
Pillboxie is a beautifully designed medication tracker for Apple devices, with nagging reminders and a dose history (App Store, 2026). It is a one-time $1.99 purchase. We found no family alerts or AI on its listing, and its latest version dates from 2017.

Pillboxie earns genuine praise for its design: a clean, intuitive interface with a visual pill-cabinet metaphor that makes scheduling medications feel approachable. For an iPhone user managing their own medications, it works well. But once a family enters the picture (a caregiver monitoring a parent, a sibling sharing responsibility, anyone on Android), its limits show.
- Apple devices only. Pillboxie is not available on Android. In a mixed-device family, a parent on iPhone and a child on Android cannot both use it.
- Persistent, but personal. Pillboxie's reminders repeat every minute until you mark the dose, which is a strength. We found no check-in or escalation to a relative on its listing.
- No caregiver view or family alerts listed. Pillboxie supports multiple patient profiles on one device, but we found no shared access or alerts when a dose is missed. For families managing a loved one's health remotely, that is a gap.
- Relies on the patient to log doses. Pillboxie records what the user reports, and so does Cureva. Cureva adds a daily check-in and a push to family when a dose stays unconfirmed.
- Doctor reports, vitals and companion not listed. Pillboxie's dose history includes notes and wellness indicators, but we found no vitals logging, doctor report or companion on its listing.
- Built around personal tracking. Pillboxie's focus is the person taking the medicine, so a caregiver monitoring a family member has less to work with.
What Cureva adds that Pillboxie doesn't have
A health companion named Eva who sends a daily check-in by first name. If a dose stays unconfirmed after a short grace period, linked family caregivers get a push alert. Cureva is built for iOS and Android. A doctor-ready PDF can be emailed to a saved doctor or shared by a secure link.
Pillboxie is a well-made app for personal use. When the person taking the medications lives alone or has family spread across Android and iPhone, a shared app helps more.
The Apple-only problem: why it matters for families
It is easy to underestimate the Apple-only limit until you run into it. Families managing an elderly parent's medications are often not all on the same platform. A parent might have an iPhone, and one sibling is on Android. The moment a single person in that care network is on Android, Pillboxie is out.
This matters even more because medication management for elderly parents is fundamentally a team responsibility. Multiple siblings, a spouse, a nurse, a neighbour with a key: these are all people who might need visibility into whether a dose was taken. Pillboxie excludes any of them who don't have an iPhone.
Apple-only can exclude part of your family
Android runs on about 69% of mobile devices worldwide, according to StatCounter Global Stats, September 2026. A medication app that does not run on Android cannot serve a mixed-device family.
Cureva is built for both iOS and Android, so family members on either can be linked as caregivers and receive push alerts when a dose goes unconfirmed.

What Cureva adds to a pill reminder
Pillboxie is a beautiful pill tracker. Cureva adds a daily check-in and a family view.
Eva, Personal Health Companion
Eva sends a daily check-in by first name, asks how your loved one is feeling and remembers what they tell her. If they answer that they are not feeling good and choose to notify family, the family is told. We found nothing equivalent on Pillboxie's listing.
Cross-Platform Family Alerts
When a dose stays unconfirmed after a short grace period, linked family caregivers receive a push notification, on iOS or Android. We found no family alert on Pillboxie's listing, and it does not run on Android.
Doctor-Ready Reports
Cureva builds a PDF for 7 days up to 6 months, ready to email to a saved doctor or share by secure link. We found no report feature on Pillboxie's listing.
Built for Caregivers, Not Just Patients
Cureva was designed for the family managing a loved one's health, not only the individual tracking their own pills. Caregivers can see the medicines and dose history the patient allows, and can edit them if the patient grants it. Pillboxie focuses on solo tracking.
