ARTHRITIS MEDICATION TRACKER

Arthritis medications work.
Only if taken exactly right.

Rheumatoid arthritis medications are among the most complex to manage: weekly Methotrexate, biologics on set intervals, daily NSAIDs, and folic acid on days you don't take Methotrexate. Missing the pattern isn't just ineffective. It can be dangerous. Cureva tracks every schedule, every variation.

Why arthritis medication management is uniquely complex

Most chronic conditions involve daily medications taken at the same time every day. Rheumatoid arthritis doesn't. The standard regimen mixes a weekly immunosuppressant (Methotrexate), a daily protective supplement (folic acid) taken specifically on the days you do NOT take Methotrexate, one or more NSAIDs taken daily, and, for moderate to severe RA, a biologic injection given every week, two weeks, or month depending on the drug. These are four different schedules running simultaneously, and getting any one of them wrong has real consequences.

The danger isn't just missing a dose. The most serious risk is taking Methotrexate more often than prescribed. Patients who take it daily instead of weekly, particularly those who are newly diagnosed and confused by their pill organizer, can develop life-threatening toxicity. This is a documented, recurring clinical error: in one review of FDA adverse event reports, confusion about the once-weekly schedule was the most common type of methotrexate error (Moore et al., 2004). The reminder system has to make the weekly schedule unmistakably clear.

Methotrexate schedule: daily dosing causes severe toxicity, a documented error pattern

The five real problems with arthritis medication management

  • Methotrexate weekly dosing confusion. Patients accidentally take it daily, confusing it with their other daily medications, causing toxicity including bone marrow suppression and liver damage. A clear weekly-only reminder with a distinct label, separate from daily medications, is critical to prevent this.
  • Biologic injections are hard to remember. Humira every 14 days, Enbrel every 7 days, Orencia every 28 days: these intervals don't map to a pill organizer or a weekly routine. Without an exact date tracker, patients lose track of when the next injection is due.
  • Folic acid must be taken on NON-Methotrexate days. This inverse schedule is counterintuitive. Patients need to remember not just to take folic acid, but to skip it on the specific day they take Methotrexate. Two overlapping schedules with an exclusion rule.
  • NSAID and Methotrexate interaction timing. Regular NSAID use can increase Methotrexate toxicity by reducing its renal clearance. Timing and dosing instructions from the rheumatologist need to be followed precisely, which requires logging both medications with accurate timestamps.
  • Rheumatologists need adherence data for expensive biologics. Because biologics are costly, a missed biologic injection isn't just a health setback. It's a clinical decision point. Rheumatologists need to know whether the drug is actually being administered on schedule before they can evaluate whether it's working.

Methotrexate overdose risk: documented and preventable

Methotrexate toxicity from accidental daily dosing is a well-documented medical error pattern. It presents as mouth sores, bone marrow suppression, liver damage, and in severe cases, pulmonary toxicity. If you or a family member has been prescribed Methotrexate for RA, the reminder system you use must make it unmistakably clear that this medication is taken once per week, not once per day. Cureva shows the weekly schedule with a clear day label and does not surface a Methotrexate reminder on non-scheduled days.

Arthritis medications and schedules Cureva tracks

Medication Class Schedule
Methotrexate DMARD (immunosuppressant) Once weekly, NEVER daily
Folic Acid Protective supplement Daily, except Methotrexate day
Adalimumab (Humira) Biologic (TNF inhibitor) Every 14 days (injection)
Etanercept (Enbrel) Biologic (TNF inhibitor) Weekly (injection)
Abatacept (Orencia) Biologic (T-cell inhibitor) Monthly IV or weekly SC
Leflunomide (Arava) DMARD Once daily
Hydroxychloroquine (Plaquenil) Antimalarial DMARD Once or twice daily with food
Naproxen / Ibuprofen NSAID 1 to 3x daily with meals
Prednisone Corticosteroid Daily (tapered per protocol)

How Cureva handles the complexity

Methotrexate appears in the app on a weekly schedule and fires only on the scheduled day of the week, never on other days. Folic acid is configured for the remaining six days. Biologics are set to their exact injection interval. Every schedule runs independently. You can email your rheumatologist a report showing every medication, every dose, and every date, so they can see exactly what was administered and when.

Weekly, every few days, or three times a day, Cureva tracks all of it without confusion. 7-day free trial · No credit card · Set up in 10 minutes

What Cureva provides for arthritis patients and families

Built for the mixed schedules, unusual intervals, and high stakes that RA management demands.

📅
Weekly and custom-interval scheduling
Set any medication to daily, specific weekdays, weekly, or every N days. Methotrexate fires once on the right day of the week. Biologics fire on the exact injection date. No confusion.
🔔
Family alert on missed doses
If a Methotrexate dose or biologic injection isn't confirmed within the alert window, linked family caregivers get a push notification. High-cost treatments don't get silently skipped.
🦼
Opposite-day folic acid scheduling
Configure folic acid for the six days of the week that are not your Methotrexate day. The app only reminds you on those days. No reminder fires on the day you take Methotrexate.
📋
Weekly rheumatologist adherence report
You can email your rheumatologist a formatted report with every medication, every dose, and every date. For biologics, this tells them definitively whether the treatment is being administered as prescribed.
🧨
Joint pain and symptom tracking
Log joint pain, morning stiffness, and fatigue alongside your medication log. Eva checks in daily, and the combined record is useful data for every appointment.
👥
Multiple caregivers connected
Spouse, adult child, or sibling, anyone connected sees the full medication dashboard. When a biologic injection day arrives, the whole support network knows. No one person carries the monitoring burden alone.

What patients and families say

Common Questions

Why is Methotrexate weekly dosing so dangerous to get wrong?
Methotrexate is prescribed once per week for rheumatoid arthritis. Patients who accidentally take it daily, confusing it with their other daily medications, can develop severe toxicity including bone marrow suppression, liver damage, and mucositis. Cureva's weekly schedule helps keep this straight: the reminder fires once on the correct day, with a clear label, and the confirmation is logged. On all other days, Methotrexate simply doesn't appear.
Can Cureva track folic acid on the days I don't take Methotrexate?
Yes. Set up folic acid with a daily schedule and mark the Methotrexate day as an exception, or simply configure folic acid for the six non-Methotrexate days of the week. Cureva handles day-specific schedules. Both medications are tracked and logged independently.
My biologic injection is every two weeks. Can Cureva track that?
Yes. Set any medication to repeat weekly or every N days. Humira every 14 days, Enbrel every 7 days, Orencia every 28 days. Cureva tracks all of them. You get a reminder on the exact injection day, and the log records the date of every dose.
Can my rheumatologist receive my adherence data?
Yes. Connect your rheumatologist's account and they receive a weekly adherence report. For expensive biologic treatments, this data is directly relevant to treatment decisions, and missed doses mean wasted medication and disease activity that could have been controlled.
Can I track joint pain and inflammation symptoms alongside my medications?
Yes. Eva (Cureva's personal health companion) checks in daily, and you can log symptoms including joint pain, swelling, and fatigue. Your symptom log sits alongside your adherence record, which is exactly the information your rheumatologist needs to see whether the current regimen is working.
